After a week-long break, winter chill will return for Christmas weekend. To start the busy holiday travel period on Friday, during the early morning, patchy freezing drizzle is possible for interior portions of northern Illinois along and north of I-88. Be advised of the potential for hazardous travel for portions of northern Illinois during the Friday morning commute. Looking ahead to the remainder of the weekend, we are continuing to monitor the potential for snow for at least portions of the area on Christmas Eve. It remains too early to determine if there will be any accumulations. Finally, expect a cold Christmas Day with sub-zero wind chills possible during the morning and evening and another possible chance for snow later in the day into the evening.
