Possible Hiring Freeze Proposed for Lake County – November 13, 2017 At the Tuesday, November 14 Lake County Council Meeting, a hiring freeze will be proposed. The ordinance will suggest a hiring freeze for all non-essential Lake County personnel. Excluded from the freeze will be county sheriff’s police as well as corrections officers.
Portage Investigating a New City Hall – November 13, 2017 The Strategic Planning Committee chaired by John Cannon, R-4th is investigating a new city hall. The committee feels that the existing building does not lend itself to renovation and additional space is also needed to incorporate additional city departments within the new proposed facility. The other issue seems to be the location of the old facility. The financial disposition of the city is a main concern and is being investigated.
Gary Nightclub Shooting Person of Interest in Custody – November 13, 2017. During investigation of the shooting at a Gary Nightclub 2:33 am on the 4600 block of Melton Road in which 7 victims were shot, police have identified two people of interest connected to the incident. Currently one person of interest is in custody as search continues for the other suspect.
